The Secret Lives of My Dad
The inspiration for this project stemmed from a desire to expand on a previous project in which I looked at my Dad’s life living with a brain tumour. It was the first time I really connected with Dad over his illness. I had to grapple with my emotions, capturing the hard times as well as the good, using my camera to document his daily life.
This time I wanted to continue with this journey of working with my Dad to create a project, but this time I wanted it to be more upbeat, something we could both take enjoyment from; a type of art therapy. This year we would work together as a Father-Daughter team, I would create the props and he would create the characters, embodying them with his poses and expressions. Together we created a body of work that would help us both in its own way. For me it was something to help me connect further with my Dad, and for him it was something he could get involved in, something fun to help him relax and for those few moments, forget about all the negatives.
